POOCH at the Rose City Classic Dog Show

Mountain Shop, Portland, OR
Shoppers at the Mountain Shop Sale
sponsored by WalkAbout Magazine.

PEOPLE STREAMED in and out of the POOCH fundraiser party at the Mountain Shop on NE Broadway, Portland, the evening of January 10. Sponsored by WalkAbout Magazine, a free publication found at numerous Portland locations including New Seasons, this was a festive occasion with both bargains and refreshments - fresh vegetables, fruits, cookies, and even some great wine to help warm cold bodies as they shook snow from their coats

The folks at WalkAbout can not only produce a first-class publication, they also know how to throw a party! People came from as far away as Bend, OR, to celebrate WalkAbout’s fourth anniversary, to mingle, and to learn about Project POOCH, search and rescue dogs, hiking, walking, keeping one’s heart healthy, and durable outer wear for dogs. There were complimentary chair massages and practical door prizes including back packs, dog accessories, and baskets filled with all the things active people need to be safe and look good while running, walking, or hiking.

POOCH provided handouts, brochures and information about the program and dogs needing homes. A percent of every sale during the party was donated to Project POOCH.

The great granddaughter of Reverend William MacLaren who donated land for MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility, Roberta MacLaren, heard about the event and came from Gresham to show support for Project POOCH. She said her great grand father was a quiet man who cared about young people and worked with troubled youth and adults.

Project POOCH thanks WalkAbout and the Mountain Shop for partnering to bring the community together for a worthwhile cause.
