New Volunteers Tour Kennels

Testing for food aggression.
Food aggression testing
THIS SPRING, Project POOCH invited 15 new volunteers to tour the Vollum Kennels and see at firsthand the work the youths do when working with the dogs that come to the kennels from shelters.

Pooch dog handler, LEROY, demonstrated how POOCH temperament tests the dogs before they are accepted into the program. Beagle Rescue brought in two dogs for demonstration purposes. Both dogs passed the rigorous test, and are now learning basic obedience before being adopted.

Another POOCH dog handler, ALEX, and his dog, Bruce, demonstrated how the dogs are tested for their Canine Good Citizen Certificates. POOCH dogs must earn certificates to qualify for adoption to forever homes.

Volunteer coordinator, SUSIE WAKI, with JENN THOMPSON, JESSICA KAPLAN, and LEE KEISH.
