First Playday for POOCHes ARFul Lots of Fun!
APPRECIATION FOR PATTI GALLE, our volunteer event coordinator, is in order.
POOCH-In-the-Park was her creation. One day Patti blew into the outreach office and
volunteered to organize a fund-raiser. It was like the arrival of Mary Poppins or maybe
General Patton. Within days she had rounded up a group of volunteers, turned the
storage area into a strategy center, and papered the walls with planning charts.
Dog races, biscuit tosses for big and little dogs, police dog demos, an agility course,

obedience fun matches, dog training tips, puppy kissing, a parade of POOCH dog alums
with their people, water under every tree, plus vendors galore and raffle prizes.
And all on what may have been the hottest day of the year!
Thanks, Patti, for making it all happen and giving us all, pets and people, so much fun!

PROCEEDS benefit the
Project POOCH, Inc., Mission:
providing opportunities for youth in corrections to develop the personal and vocational skills they need to become
responsible, productive members of the community.
The program successfully accomplishes this by teaching youth to care for and train shelter dogs for adoption.
THE MARY S. YOUNG DOG PARK offers 3.19 acres of play space, and is located at the end of the main park access road. The area is
well-maintained with both open space and shady places, picnic tables, garbage cans, running water, and even poop bags
(but it's a good idea to bring your own, just in case).
From the Dog Park it's only a short walk to the river where you and your dog can cool your feet and go for a wade.
