Susie Waki’s New Roles
SUSIE WAKI
Volunteer Coordinator Board Member
|
SUSIE WAKI has accepted the position of volunteer coordinator for Project POOCH, and was
elected to the board of directors.
Susie and her husband David and son Collins moved to Oregon from Georgia six years years ago.
Her two golden retrievers, Tucker and Tamra, are Delta Society Pet Partner therapy dogs, and Susie often
brings them to Project POOCH to demonstrate advanced obedience training.
She also started a
“Read to a Dog” program at Nancy Ryles Elementary School, and is the
volunteer coordinator for former
Governor Kitzhaber's Archimedes Movement for health care system
reform in Oregon. She and her husband have donated funds for the youths to create a Meditation Garden near the kennels in memory of David Waki’s parents.
Susie says:
" I continue to be amazed at the youth and their obvious love and devotion to the dogs...
But most amazing of all is how those dogs can bring together a mom from the suburbs and boys in
prison and give them something in common, something they can talk about, something they can
share, and something that they each care about."
IF YOU WANT TO VOLUNTEER for Project POOCH, please call Susie at 503-697-0623 or email her at
project_pooch@yahoo.com.
